Renewable energy installers

You Tube logoWith all the talk about solar, heat pumps, carbon footprints and green issues you may well be feeling a bit confused about the options available in the field of renewable energy.

Aqua King are Worcester Bosch accredited installers of renewable energy heating solutions, such as Solar heating, Ground source heat pump and Air source heat pump systems. This gives you a couple of great benefits:

  • We know renewables - we're not a new 'start up' jumping on the bandwagon of renewable energy, we've been working in this field for a long time so know the solutions that are right for you
  • We can provide real world advice on the costs, likely payback period and also give guidance on any grants, discounts or schemes that may be able to assist you in the installation of renewable energy
  • Take advantage of the reduction in VAT.  All Renewable technologies are applicable to 5% VAT!

We've detailed some basics on the 4 types of renewable heating solutions that we can install for you, but for more information on renewable energy options, please contact us for a no obligation chat or quote.

Solar Panels on a roof

Solar Thermal (Hot Water)

Solar heating is, as the name suggests, heating from the Sun's energy.

Did you know - up to 70% of your household's annual hot water requirements could be heated by the suns rays?

Key Facts:

  • Solar Panels use the power in both direct and diffused sunlight, converting the energy into heat, to produce hot water for the home.
  • Solar panels allow you to turn off your hot water heating for most of the Summer months
  • Installation is relatively straight-forward and maintenance costs are low
  • Installations generally start from around £3,000 - depending on size, location, etc.
  • Existing boiler does not normally need to be replaced, but a twin coiled cylinder needs to be installed to allow the solar and boiler heating to function as required

Solar Photovoltaics (Electricity)

Solar Photovoltaics (or PV as its commonly known) utilises free energy from the sun to generate electricity. Solar PV modules rely on daylight (rather than radiation) to generate power through the use of photovoltaic cells.

Solar PV is simple to install as they are fixed to the roof in the same way as solar thermal collectors but instead of pipework, cables are used. The cables are connected to an invertor, which converts DC electricity produced to AC electricity. This can then be consumed by the household or sold back to the National Grid.

In addition to this you will be applicable for the governments ‘Generation Feed-in Tariffs (FiT). These started on the 1st April 2010 and are guaranteed payments for 25 years from the date of installation TAX FREE. This payback scheme results in a shorter payback for Solar PV systems, making them an extremely attractive green option for any home.

Tariff levels, for Solar PV installed between 15th July 2009 and 31st March 2012 - Domestic

Technology Scale Tariff level (p/kWh) Export Tariff (p/kWh) Tariff lifetime (years)
Solar electricity (PV) ≤4 kW (retro fit) 43.3p 3.1p 25
Solar electricity (PV) ≤4 kW (new build) 37.8p 3.1p 25

This means that if you normally pay 12p per kWh for your electricity, you would effectively get both the power consumed for free and the FiT. So on a retrofit system below 4kWh this would mean 12p + 43.3p = 53.3p per kWh saving.

Ground source heat pumpGround source heat pumps

Designed to take energy from the ground and heat your home and hot water for the entire house. Ground source heating is set to revolutionise the future of house building/heating.

Key Facts:

  • The heat pump replaces the need for a boiler all together, and can satisfy all of your hot water and heating needs.
  • Heat pumps work well with underfloor heating - although oversize radiators can be used as well. Installation costs start from around £8,000 depending upon installation size, location, etc.
  • Running costs of this system are minimal - meaning greatly reduced fuel bills

Air source heat pumps

Air source heat pump

Air source heat pumps can be installed into new build or existing houses, and take energy from the air to heat the home and it's hot water supply. It does not need to be a warm day outside, as the technology used in these devices can work with outside temperatures down to -20°C!

Key Facts:

  • Air to water heat pumps will heat water for taps and central heating
  • Air to air heat pumps are like an air conditioner - but provide hot air in the winter and cool air in the summer
  • Air to air heat pumps do not heat the hot water, but are ideal for heating living areas efficiently.
  • Can be installed where no gas, oil or solid fuel is available - only requires electricity
